Healthy Habits -- Healthy Holidays!

Our Parenting Place is excited to share their new collaboration with Founder of Endorphinzzz, Irina Shulkin, Health Coach and Certified Holistic Nutrition Practitioner. Irina advocates and promotes Healthy lifestyles and helps people gain new healthy habits related to food.  Her classes have been known to help people reverse diseases.
.
“Irina, the holidays are a great time for families and friends to gather and food is always the center of gatherings.  It’s a time we are enticed with high in fat and high in sugar foods.  How do you recommend balancing between enjoying our family gatherings and staying healthy?”
.
Well, thanks to the internet and growing healthy community, our holiday tables are different now.

  • Healthy food could be as delicious as unhealthy food, if not more – we have to train our brain and learn the ways to make healthy foods delicious.

  • Foods can be made delicious with foods from nature – such as lemon/lime juice, apple cider vinegar, fresh herbs, cheese from nuts.

  •  Foods common during the Winter holidays such as pumpkins, root vegetables, squashes, lentils, beans and Brussel sprouts are wonderful way of creating a colorful display at your holiday table.  We have amazing recipes to spice up these hearty vegetables and legumes.

  • Many cultures have been enjoying vegan and vegetarian food that has no drastic health consequences. Eating them does not place you in a semi-sleeping digestive state of holiday lethargy. I love to dance and dance and often choose very light food so I can dance and enjoy. Besides my dress fits well too… extra point of holiday joy for me.

  • Replace refined sugar with sugar that comes from whole fruits – using fruits as your sweetener, unbleached brown sugar has an amazing aroma and sugar cane are great substitutes.  The sugar that we use comes from whole fruits, or sugar cane, brown sugar that is not bleached and has amazing aroma. Or coconut sugar that is also unrefined, therefore it absorbs slowly into the blood, due to its mineral and fiber complexes.

  •  I have amazing recipes of colorful parfaits and layered cheesecakes in a glass, that are alternated with berries, cut fruit pieces, some chia seeds, or dry berries, that adds interesting color and texture and provides one with fiber.

How can I learn these techniques to making the holidays healthy?

Healthy Habits – Trying New Foods

Our Parenting Place is excited to share its latest collaboration with Endorphinzzz  Founder, Irina Shulkin, Health Coach and Certified Holistic Nutrition Practitioner. Irina advocates and promotes Healthy lifestyles and helps children gain new healthy eating habits the FUN way – thru her Healthy Cooking Classes for Children:Chef Color Raw Classes.

We asked her: “Irina, many parents love the idea of their children eating wholesome and healthy foods. But how would you introduce a new food to children who aren’t used to trying new things? What would you begin with?”
  • Children love to be in the kitchen.  Acting like mommy or daddy do in the kitchen brings mastery to kids and it demonstrates real life – Kids learn best and enjoy doing hands-on activities such as  peeling, cutting, arranging, designing, tasting and eating.  Cooking gives kids the feeling of control.
  • Children will have the opportunity to find their inner creativity by preparing and re-enacting recipes.
  •   Kids are naturally curious, in our classes, they will be able to make their own decisions, and this is the first step in gaining self-confidence and to fuel their love for learning and experimenting
  • Children will be introduced in a playful manner to a new dictionary of foods; they will use all their 5 senses in these classes.
  • Children will get the opportunity to explore nutrition, chemistry, biology and botany.
  • Each class will be documented giving children the ability to express their learning and to share their experiences with others through an interview that will be videotaped and recorded to memorialize the facts they’ve learned each lesson.  Videos will be available for children and families to share.

Through these steps, children will be more likely to try new foods and become adventurous.
